Without a doubt, the most worn fashion accessory in France is the scarf. Take a walk down the streets of Paris, Lyon, or Grenoble and you will see scarves galore. Fall, winter, spring, summer, they wear something around their necks. Of course the scarf has moved away from its original purpose and become as much of an accent as a handbag or belt; and it's great because you can wear it as dressy or casually as you like. I like that even though the scarf is a staple in France, it's also recently become one in America, as evidenced by this picture of Jessica Alba. If we want to talk about cross-cultures, I had heard before about a controversy over a certain type of scarf that is typically worn by hipsters now, but originated in the arab world and is now a topic of political debate. A quote from the article: "In spring 2008, keffiyehs in colours like purple and mauve were given away in issues of fashion magazines in Spain and France."
